    Light plane crash reported at Fox Glacier

    A plane carrying eight passengers went down on the West Coast of New Zealand Saturday with all onboard believed to have died in the crash, according to New Zealand police reports.

    The light Fletcher fixed-wing aircraft had taken off from the Fox Glacier airstrip in New Zealand when it encountered difficulties and crashed near the airport.

    Some witnesses reported seeing the plane on fire before it plummeted to the ground and exploded, none of the nine people onboard were taken to hospital, according to local police reports.

    The crash occurred at 1.30pm local time, the plane was carrying one pilot and eight passengers, who are believed to have been part of a skydiving trip.

    Fox Glacier is a 13 square kilometer glacier in Westland National Park and a popular tourist attraction on New Zealand’s South Island.
